We all have a "NEWMAN!" (Jerry Seinfeld)
My "Newman" is a pro biker, not just any pro. He was the Masters Time Trial "World Champion". Let's just say, "this guy" has shaken up the time trial races and this years "George's Series". Now he decided to be a runner too! Saturday was the 33rd Race to Robie Creek and I was hoping to get my first ever age group award at the race. But it wasn't to be. As I closed in on the finish line, with nothing left in the tank, I saw I was gaining on my "Newman", but I ran out of real estate. In the end he placed third in our age group just a few yards ahead of me, I was 4th (again). Uhg.
It was a tough loss, but if you are going to lose, I guess he's a good one to lose to.
Did you race Robie? What is your story?
Of course Robie Creek wasn't the only race this weekend, and the new Velopark Grand Prix allowed more Team TAI/Dobbiaco to rip up the dirt. This new race series sounds like a blast with racers doing loops, not only using the trails around the Velopark, but some of the downhill courses too!
Having fun and placing well were the powerful Harvey Duo. Lori Harvey placed 1st in the Cat 2 class. Mike Harvey just nipped his wife's time (which is a huge feather in anyone's cap if you have ever raced against Lori!) and Rob Barnes slid in just seconds behind. Great job Team!
"News from the Road" (Road racers that is). A few of the die hard racers made the trek to Walla Walla for the Tour of Walla Walla. I know Charles Stearns and Doug LaMott took to the three stage course and will bring their racing experience back to the RR team for this weekends racing!
Speaking of this weekend's racing. Jason Broome (2.0) is Saturday. Remember that race you registered for months ago? Yup it's finally going to happen and it's guaranteed to be the best weather the Jason Broome TT has EVER had. Also Saturday is the Weiser River trail 50k Ultra and Relay, sponsored by Shu's Idaho Running Co. The next day will take the Road Racers to the Emmett Roubaix. Haven't done a road race yet? Join us! The Cat 5 group is a great place to start and there are plenty of friends to help. It's better to ride with our TAI/Dobbiaco team colors all around you than it is to ride with, as Jason Hudson calls him, the "sweat pants guy."
On the "fun" side of riding. Who all did the Rhonde Van Boise? How was it?
The first "Big Triathlon Race" for our Multisports athletes is just days away. If you get a chance to see Nicol Chandler, or Marty Lindgren, (I think I am missing a teammate?) be sure to give them your best as they are tapering for Ironman St. George. I would love to get some words of wisdom from our pending Ironmen... Ironpeople? Iron...hmmm you get the point
Keep me informed,
Brian Baker
Monday Morning Extra: Have you been out for our "Club Ride"? It leaves from Therapeutic Associates on State Street Wednesdays. These are no drop rides and a great time to get comfy riding in a pack. I'll be posting a reminder Wednesday.
Sorry if the "Extra" is short today... I'm watching the Boston Marathon!
